Is the most common form of DI caused by a deficiency of (ADH) vasopressin or antidiuretic hormone. This type of DI is usually due to the destruction of the posterior pituitary, the site where vasopressin is normally produced. The posterior pituitary can be destroyed by a variety of secondary disorders such as tumors, infections, head trauma , infiltration, and hereditary disorders. These can be identified due to the introduction of DI in young children whose parents are history, or other close relatives with the same disorder.
However pituitary DI is usually not found in the same cause (idiopathic), so that the underlying causes are still not known. It is usually permanent and can not be cured but the signs and symptoms can be wholly and completely controlled through the use of various drugs which include desmopressin or DDAVP. Because the pituitary DI is often associated with deficiencies of other pituitary hormones of origin, specific tests and treatments for these times abnormalities are also required.
