Diabetes insipidus or water diabetes is a disorder related to the deficiency of the antidiuretic hormone (vasopressin) or a resistance of the kidney to the hormone receptors, causing polyuria (excretion of large amounts of very dilute urine) and as a result polydipsia (increased thirst sensation to replenish excess water lost through urination).
Is caused by an alteration of the pituitary and characterized by polyuria without the presence of glucose.
